Frequently asked Questions
1. How much will my matter cost?
As each case is different and involves varying levels of work to be conducted, it is difficult to set a standard fee for all matters.
Your case will be individually assessed and an estimation as to the work to be conducted and fees charged will be provided.
Almeida + Associates charge a fair and reasonable fee for all matters in consideration of the high level of legal representation provided.
2. Should I answer police questions during a record of interview?
With some exceptions, you do not have to answer any questions during a Police record of interview. Your choice not to answer questions cannot be used against you in court.
There are however some questions that, according to the law, must be answered ,such as a question relating to the identity of the driver of a motor vehicle.
If the police wish to speak to you, it is strongly recommended that you contact us immediately, prior to answering any questions.
3. Do I need to attend court?
In Criminal or Driving offence matters you have to attend court if you are on bail or have been ordered to attend by the court.
If you have received a summons and have legal representation then you may not be required to attend court.
In Family/Federal Magistrates matters it is essential that you attend court as you will often be required to provide continuing instructions to us.
4. How long will my matter take to finish?
Each and every matter, whether it be criminal, traffic or family, is very different in nature. For this reason each matter will take a different amount of time to conclude depending on what occurs during the progress of the matter. For this reason it is difficult to state a definite completion time for your case however what you can be assured, Almeida + Associates will complete your matter in an efficient and timely manner.
Going to Court
Criminal law / driving offences
- Your summons, “information/complaint’, bail paper will inform you what date, time and court you have to attend at.

- You can also identify which courtroom and Judge or Magistrate you are appearing before by looking at the court list from 6pm onwards, the day before your hearing. Click on this link to take you to the court list www.courts.sa.gov.au/sheriff/cause_lists/index.html
- When you arrive at the court you will be required to undergo a security check.
- Confirm which courtroom your matter will be heard in by looking on the court notice board usually positioned near the security checking point.
- If you cannot find your name on the notice board, please attend at the court registry and inform them of this.
- When you arrive at the courtroom a Sherriff’s officer will take your name at which time it will be confirmed that you are represented by Almeida and Associates.
Family Court / Federal magistrates Court
- If court proceedings have been instituted or you have received paperwork to attend court that paperwork will identify what court, date and time you are required to attend at.
